Wedding Dress Shopping Timeline:

We reached out to owner, Erica Trunk of Solutions Bridal, for some expert advice:

"For wedding gown shopping, you'll want a realistic timeline. Truthfully, a year before your wedding is the sweet spot! It can take designers months to create your gown, plus you'll need an additional few weeks for alterations and any customizations. The earlier you can get in to see us, the better!

Now before you step foot in any salon, feel free to reach out to them and ask questions. From inquiring about different designers to understanding what falls within your budget, a little research goes a long way! It never hurts to have a game plan and a Pinterest board in tow!

Perhaps the most important advice I can share is this: don't overbook yourself! Bridal shopping can be not only physically tiring, but mentally and emotionally as well. Only take a few of your most important people to join you, and book just one to two appointments. Each salon has hundreds of dresses and by the second appointment, you'll have seen all the silhouettes & styles and can easily overwhelm yourself.

Remember, wedding gown shopping is EXCITING! It truly is a memorable experience you'll want to relish forever. Enjoy every moment!"

Wow, that is awesome advice! Thank you Erica!

Wedding Dress Shopping Timeline

12 Months Before the Wedding:

  • Inspiration: Start gathering ideas. Create a Pinterest board, flip through bridal magazines, and explore online for styles and trends that catch your eye.

  • Research: Identify bridal boutiques and designers you're interested in, and begin scheduling initial appointments.

9 Months Before the Wedding:

  • Try on Dresses: Begin trying various styles to determine what best suits your body type and reflects your style. Consider your wedding's theme and setting as you narrow down choices.

  • Narrow Your Options: Focus on specific designers or dresses that you love.

6 Months Before the Wedding:

  • Order Your Dress: Once you've found your dream dress, place your order. Keep in mind, most gowns need several months for production and alterations.

  • Plan Alterations: Schedule fittings and discuss alterations with a trusted seamstress or the boutique's alterations department.

3 Months Before the Wedding:

  • First Fitting: Attend your first fitting to make necessary adjustments. Choose your undergarments, shoes, and accessories.

  • Fine-tune the Details: Ensure your dress is shaping up just as you envisioned.

1 Month Before the Wedding:

  • Final Fitting: Confirm everything looks perfect and make final tweaks.

  • Pick Up Your Dress: Collect your gown and store it safely, ensuring it's pristine for the big day.

Top 3 Tips for Choosing the Perfect Wedding Dress:

  1. Understand Your Body: Knowing your body type helps in selecting the most flattering silhouette. Whether you're pear-shaped, hourglass, or have a petite frame, understanding what styles suit you best will streamline your search.

  2. Keep to Your Budget: Set a clear budget for your dress and stick to it to avoid financial stress. Beautiful dresses exist at all price points—there's no need to overspend.

  3. Follow Your Heart: The right dress should make you feel stunning and confident. Trust your gut over others' opinions. Your wedding dress should celebrate your personal style and make you feel incredibly special.
